Jonathan's 1st visit to the Wild Animal Park

It was a busy week as Jonathan got a visit from Grammy, this week. The highlight of the week was a trip to the Wild Animal Park in San Diego. First-hand pictures show the little guys excitement! Although he was crazy excited starting out, it seems he wore himself out as he slept pretty much through everything. None the less, it was a great day. Everyone had a good time and no tantrums were thrown! Thanks for the visit Grammy! Hope to see you and (next time) Grandpa again, soon!

Finishing up month #1 in pictures...

Well, I decided that since I've fallen behind on my weekly pictures, I will post some of the rest of my better shots from my phone. This pretty much sums up month #1. Eileen, Jonathan and I have enjoyed a lot of good times this past month. Lack of sleep has got nothing on us! We've powered through! Thanks for all the visitors! We appreciate all the help that has been given to us as well as the love and joy!

Week #2, in pictures...

Week #2 brought along a lot of firsts, for our little man. First, life outside the walls of home can be intimidating! Luckily, we can shield the likes of the dreaded sun with Jonathan's first sun (Giligan) hat. A little big, but what can you do? He also had his first car ride! Where do you go when you live in San Diego? You go to the BEACH! Aunt Stephanie was with us for this trip, as you'll see. All in all we had a great time. The sun was out and there was only one little diaper mishap, but we don't need to go there ;)

Introducing Jonathan Michael!

We are happy to announce Jonathan Michael! Born June 11, 2010, at exactly 12:50pm, weighing in at 7 pounds 6 ounces and measuring a good 20 inches. Everything went great at delivery! Eileen was a total trooper! The doctors said she has a high pain tolerance... I already knew this because she deals with me on a daily basis! Contractions started at around 5pm the day before but were inconsistent, all the way up to midnight. I know that around this time, I finally fell asleep, only to be awakened at 3:30AM to a MIGHTY GRIP pressing down on my arm. By this time, contractions were a consistent 3 minutes apart. Alas, we call the hospital and headed out! Anyways, I'm hoping to get a lot of pictures up throughout each week, starting with week #1:

Baby McZimm Nursery

It is getting down to the wire now, just 2.5 more weeks until Baby McZimm is due. Or 4.5 weeks if he decides to be late. I really, really, really hope he is not very late! I can't imagine another month of being this big! I am pretty useless, can't do too many errands or chores around the house before I need to sit down and take a break! In any case, we finally finished putting the nursery together today. There is a lot of work involved in getting ready for this baby let me tell you. So much laundry to do, clothes to hang and fold, baby gear to buy. We were really fortunate though, our friends and family were very generous so we have so many cute things for Baby McZimm to play with and wear! Sean has done a great job of installing the car seat, assembling the stroller, and putting together the pack 'n play where Baby McZimm will sleep for the first couple of months.

8 Months Pregnant

Here is a picture of me at 36 weeks prego. Baby McZimm is getting really, really, heavy. For the most part throughout my pregnancy I have been feeling pretty good, but I have to say that ever since I hit this final month my back has been killing me. It is really hard to get comfortable at night, I definitely have to have a pillow under my belly to support him or he pulls my stomach down and stretches against my skin - ouch! It is also pure comedy trying to get out of bed, I pretty much need a crane at this point, there is a lot of grunting. Sean wants to know if the grunting goes away after I give birth, that remains to be seen. I also included a picture of me as one of my sister-in-law Stacey's bridesmaids. Her wedding was beautiful, more of that in another post. Sean took this picture of me at the reception just after the ceremony. I had to put my feet up for awhile because they were so swollen! My legs look more like elephant legs at this point, my ankles no longer exist, they are now "cankles".

Baby McZimm Dresser & Crib Setup

So two weekends ago Sean put together the baby's crib! We had ordered the dresser and crib about two months ago and they finally arrived. Sean actually seemed excited to prove his daddy-to-be skills and get the crib installed by himself, no need to pay the delivery guys to set it up. I started panicking a bit when the furniture was delivered, but Sean reassured me that he had the situation under control. Our friends all had very funny stories to tell about their experiences putting together their babies' cribs, it seems to be a new parent right of passage, and apparently in some cases a test of your marriage! By popular demand I decided to do a video documentation of Sean's efforts, so here is a link to the short video clip I put together to showcase Sean's spectacular work. Please note that Sean already had a boo-boo on his forehead (which has since healed), rest assured that was not inflicted during the crib installation. No fathers-to-be were harmed in the making of this movie.

Enjoy!

7 Months Pregnant

Here is a picture of Eileen at 31 weeks, or 7 months to rest of us that believe months are easier to remember than weeks. By the way, what's the deal with that? Is it just a way to remind the mother-to-be that the baby has been, and will be, in the oven for quite some time? I am just a rookie at all this, so who am I to say? Moving on... it's been a busy busy last few weeks. Not only is work keeping us busy (what's new, right?), but the baby preparation is really starting to set in. We recently got our crib put together and now we just got the bedding to go along with it. I believe Eileen actually has some video she is planning on putting up to show some of those highlights (wait, there were highlights? hahaha). Stay tuned for that. We have also been attending baby preparation classes every thursday, this month. It's been interesting to say the least. Tim, you were dead-on with this one: It really is "the march of the pillow people". The building we go to is right next door to the mall and so while others are returning to their cars with newly purchased items, we are walking through the parking lot with a couple pillows and a blanket, like we are looking for a place to sleep. I would have to say we're learning a lot though. Everything from breathing techniques to massages. Oh, and we just saw a video of a C-section in our last session... Let me just say we may have had to use some of those breathing techniques while watching ;)

Other than that, all is well. Look for another update soon, as Eileen is sitting next to me figuring out how to work iMovie. Nothing quite like video humor to pass the time along!

6 Months Pregnant

Well, here I am at 27 weeks pregnant with Baby McZimm. Every time we take one of these pictures I think my belly hasn't grown much since the last month until I look at the previous month's picture! Wow. It has gotten to the point where I am starting to feel like I can't possibly get any bigger, I don't know how I still have three months left because my tummy already feels like my skin is really stretched out already! I feel our baby moving all the time now. Sometimes he even stretches and pushes against my right side directly under my rib cage, it feels like he might pop through! When he does this, Sean and I can feel his tiny behind or leg or foot if we press gently against him. It never hurts, but sometimes it is uncomfortable be pushed against from the inside out, so I rub the area a little bit and he usually moves to a more comfortable spot.

It is fun to be sitting at my desk working or to be sitting in a meeting and feel him kicking and squirming around. It is funny because in the mornings, just like the dog and the cat, he seems to sleep until I get up or start talking to Sean, then he starts wiggling around and kicking. He also gets very rambunctious after I eat or drink, I guess he gets a sugar high, or maybe he just hears me chewing or my stomach moving around or something! We are now officially in the third and final trimester, we are so excited and can't believe we get to meet Baby McZimm in just twelve more weeks!
